The West Eden Village Improvement Society (aka Town Hill Village Improvement Society) was incorporated in 1898. Its mission is to undertake activities that aid in creating and maintaining a beautiful, healthy and safe place for West Eden & Town Hill residents to live. The VIS serves the northwest section of Mt. Desert Island, Maine approximately 10 miles from the downtown Bar Harbor business district. The VIS maintains the old Town Hill schoolhouse (VIS Hall), the Town Hill ball field, and the Mountain View Cemetery (located on Route 102).
